Magoo's hot rods have appeared in magazines like NZ Rodder, NZ Hot Rod, Petrolhead, Janning Gears, Goodguys Gazette, Benchrace, NZV8, Street Machine (Oz), even a swedish rod publication, but we were kind of surprises when our roadster pickup appeared in the timeless Popular Mechanics. Aside from the reference to us being at Bonneville this year (it was 2008 that we pushed Bill Ward's kiwi entry), we weren't sure what to make out about the rat rod reference.....Check it out at; http://www.popularmechanics.com/automot ... 27660.html

As usual, the latest trip to the States had many highlights, but one of the best was definitely the 2 hour run back from Pleasanton to Auburn, freeway travelling but with no traffic delays meant we spent more time at 70mph. The Stroker McGurk winning roadster pickup behaved well for the journey and it was a blast cruising in convoy with my friend Mike Gialdini driving his hemi powered roadster. We also attended a Cruise Nite event, Hot Rod Week (see the www.americarna.com website for more pics of that), and of course the West Coast Nationals.

Of all the hot rod builders in the world, the one I respect and admire the most is Roy Brizio. Roy & his team have built literally 100s of cars ... The roadster pickup he put together for Cliff Hanson was the inspiration for the Stroker McGurk award winning Bonneville push car we built in the States last year. Finally a book has been published recognising his business achievements and the cars he has built. Author and photographer Bo Bertilsson examines the family legacy and profiles dozens of the standout cars that have rolled out of the South San Francisco shop and taken the Brizio name to the top of the hot rod heap. Here are the Brizio-built and restored coupes and roadsters of the stars, including Eric Clapton, as well as Roy's and Andy's own acclaimed 32 Ford roadsters, among many others. Bertilsson focuses on ground-up Brizio builds and explores some of Brizio's remarkable restorations, illustrating every car with fabulous color photography. The hardbound coffee table keeper is 160 pages and it’s a must for any collection! $95 including courier. Order your copy now.

We regularly host club visits to Magoo's and last weekend it was the turn of the Wellington branch of the NZ Ford Performance Vehicles & Tickford Owners Club. Nice crew of people with some tidy Falcons on display. Next weekend we have the Mopar boys here. If your club is interested in making a trip to Masterton, let us know. There are other attractions here such as Pointon's Museum, Gasoline Heaven, Shear History Trust, Sport & Vintage Aviation and of course the Tui Brewery so easy to fill up a day (or weekend).
